How Ultrasonic Water Meters Work
Ultrasonic water meters operate using the transit-time principle. Inside the meter body, two ultrasonic sensors are installed at opposite angles.
- One sensor sends an ultrasonic signal in the direction of water flow
- The second sends a signal against the flow
When water is flowing, the signal travelling with the flow moves faster than the signal travelling against the flow. The meter measures this time difference and calculates the flow velocity. From this data, the total water volume is accurately determined.
